Writing Your Loss Story: Virtual

September 6, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until September 27, 2022

Writing Your Loss Story is a four-week writing program that provides therapeutic writing prompts for the bereaved to use to tell their story. Held via Zoom and facilitated by Jane Baker Segelken, LMSW
The group allows individual living with loss to explore their unique circumstances. A goal of the program is healing with words — participants will create their own unique works by responding to writing prompts and will be encouraged to share their work and engage in discussion.
An individual doesn’t have to be a “writer” to do this type of work. The expressive writing process allows participants to write deep thoughts and feelings about their grief journey without regard to form or other writing conventions like spelling, punctuation, and verb agreement. As opposed to talking, writing has the added benefit of including time for reflection and introspection that talking doesn’t allow. This group will give those dealing with loss an outlet to express their feelings in a nonjudgmental, confidential environment. Many studies have found that writing helps reduce anxiety, stress, and depression while boosting mental, physical, and emotional health. Writing Your Loss Story will provide an environment that is safe and nurturing, where unrestrained narrative expression is encouraged, and an opportunity to share, support, and advance therapeutic value through creativity.

Participants must commit to all 4 sessions. Registration is required by September 1st. Use the form below. For more information contact the Bereavement staff via phone at 607-272-0212 or send an email. Login details will be provided after registration.
