The Many Ways Our Volunteers Help

We rely on the support of our volunteers to assist patients, their families, and staff in many ways:

Companionship: Reading, listening or just sitting with a patient in their home or the facility where they reside

Respite: Offering respite relief to allow caregivers a few hours “off”

Light housekeeping: Assisting with light household chores

Transportation: Providing transportation for patients / caregivers to appointments or on errands

Personal Pampering: Providing a manicure, setting hair, or rubbing lotion into a patients hands or feet.

Making Memories: Offering a photo session with a patient and/or their loved ones; assisting with the organization of photo albums; recording a favorite memory/story or assisting in writing a letter to a loved one.

Pet visits: Providing pet visits to the patients in our Residence. These volunteers have successfully completed the Cornell Companions course with their pets and are willing to share their time and animal companions with Hospicare.

Massage: Offering a relaxing massage to patients. These volunteers are licensed, insured massage therapists who are willing to share their time and professional skills.

Bereavement support: Making monthly phone calls to bereaved family members or assisting with mailings.

Administrative: Assisting our staff with office tasks

Events: Assisting ahead of time or at the actual event, including Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare.
