Hospicare depends on the incredible commitment of more than 100 volunteers who put in thousands of hours supporting our patients and families, as well as supporting our staff. Twice a year Hospicare offers a training series for individuals interested in volunteering their time to assist patients with advanced illness and to support their families.
Our next training course for new Hospicare volunteers will be held twice a week for three consecutive weeks in March from 5:30-9:00 p.m. each day:
Attendance at all sessions is required. Potential volunteers must complete the application and meet with the Manager of Volunteer Services before the training starts.
All volunteers must complete the mandatory 20-hour training program. Additional paperwork and health requirements will be reviewed during the training.
The range of activities our trained volunteers do is very broad: they may offer companionship, read aloud, run errands, write letters, provide massage, play music, cook meals or shop for groceries. They also assist the agency in other ways, depending on their interests and backgrounds.
