Stitching Through Grief
April 1, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Stitching Through Grief is a collaboration between Hospicare’s Good Grief program and Sew Green. This program is appropriate for children age 8 (must be in third grade or higher) through 12 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Each child will learn the basics of using a sewing machine and will sew a 9-panel memory pillow with assistance from the instructors at Sew Green. A Hospicare bereavement counselor trained in working with grieving children will be leading the program. For children, an important part of the grieving process is having opportunities to express their feelings about the death and about the person who has died. Art projects, crafts, sewing and other tools of expression assist children in sharing feelings which are difficult to verbalize. Participants are welcome to bring in fabric that holds memories related to their loved one to be used in the pillow. Additional fabric and all other supplies will be provided. The first two hours will be focused on sewing and the last half hour will be reserved for snacks and light discussion. We ask that parents plan to drop their children off and pick them up promptly. An RSVP is required as we have limited space. The program is FREE and is provided at no cost to you. Register by March 27, 2017. Please contact Laura Ward at 607-272-0212 or via email for more information or to register your child.
