Palliative Care Services are available to individuals who have a life-threatening illness and:
- are still receiving curative care or
- have a prognosis of more than six months to live or
- choose not to enroll in hospice services, although they qualify
Palliative care team members are able to:
- consult with the patient's physician for pain and symptom management
- provide psychological consultation related to issues dealing with the illness
- help individuals interpret medical information and consider treatment options
- explore communication issues within the family regarding the illness
Palliative care services address discomfort caused not only by the disease process itself but also by curative treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy.
Our consulting services are available to patients and their families, the medical community and the community at large.
There is currently very little insurance reimbursement for palliative care. A sliding scale fee is available, and no one will be denied care for financial reasons.
