Hospicare invites anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one to participate in our bereavement program.
Bereavement Services
For those whose loved one was a hospice patient, bereavement services span the first 13 months following the death. These include up to six counseling sessions, telephone contacts, a memorial service, bereavement groups, social networking support and regular informational mailings about grieving.
Bereavement Groups
The community at large is welcome to participate in Hospicarešs bereavement groups. These groups are designed for participants ages 18 years or older who have experienced a loss through death. These groups are held at the Nina K. Miller Hospice Center unless otherwise indicated.
On-Going Adult Support Groups
The community at large is welcome to participate in Hospicarešs bereavement groups. These groups are designed for participants ages 18 years or older who have experienced a loss through death. These groups are held at the Nina K. Miller Hospice Center unless otherwise indicated.
Closed Bereavement Groups
These groups are offered periodically throughout the year. These groups offer a time-limited approach that is both supportive and instructive. Participants should register in advance as space is limited.
Grief Support for Children and Teens
Hospicare is also offering a family systemšs perspective to grief during 2008. An After School Focus Group for grieving children, teens, and their parents will run simultaneously for four consecutive weeks starting in March. Participants should register in advance as space is limited.
Good Grief Day: A Day of Healing for Children and Teens
On June 28, Hospicare will offer a day of healing for bereaved children ages 6 12 and teens ages 13 17. The program will be held at the Nina K. Miller Hospicare Center. There is no charge for participants.
"Grief is a universal emotion which can overwhelm the young as well as adults. When a child loses a loved one, there may be feelings of sadness, loneliness and anger," says Donna George, Hospicarešs Bereavement Services Coordinator. "Itšs helpful for children to express these feelings through activities as well as language. And many children find it comforting to be with peers who have had similar experiences."
There is no charge for participating in Good Grief Day, but advance registration is required.
